The WatchGuard DVD Hybrid In-Car Video Solution
Combines the Efficiency of a Direct to DVD-Video system with the Instant Access and Data Management of a Server System.
Critical Event Server System
- Instant Access to Your Critical Video Events
- Powerful Reporting and Searching on All Events
- Lowest Cost Video Storage for Your Routine Events

A Paradigm Shift
Conventional server solutions place 100% of video events onto the server and critical video gets copied onto DVDs. This costly approach uses the two storage mediums exactly opposite of what is ideal.
The DVD Hybrid Solution reverses the storage approach so you are only using the high cost server storage space for the events that will most likely benefit from instant access. All data remains on the original DVDs which is the safest and lowest cost medium for long-term data storage. The Hybrid Solution approach optimally separates and stores your critical and routine video in the most efficient manner possible.

*Based on a Typical Retention Policy
Automatically Separate Critical Video from Routine Video by Event Type
When completing a video recording, the officer simply selects the type of event from a list created by the agency. When the disc is checked-in to evidence, configuration rules dictate which types of events automatically get uploaded onto to the server. Non-critical events can easily be manually uploaded to the server at disc check-in time or at any time in the future.
If desired, the Critical Event Server can just as easily store all video on the server in the same manner as conventional servers – it’s just a policy setting.
About Event Tags
Event tags can be used to identify the type of event, suspect race, gender, license plate, case number and much more. Tags can be used for advanced searches, reports, and to simplify in-car playback. |

Three Easy Steps:
Evidence Clerk
After DVDs have been turned in, an evidence clerk can simply scan the barcode and load the disk into the DVD drive.
The server computer quickly scans the disc, automatically copies all of the metadata files into the database, and automatically uploads any critical video titles onto the server.
After the files are copied, the original disc may be placed into a prescribed bin location in the WatchGuard DVD Evidence Cabinet.
Metadata Files
A tiny metadata file is created with every video event which contains all of the identifying and searchable information associated with that recording event. All of the metadata files (from both critical and routine events) are uploaded to the server at the time the disc is checked-in. This provides the ability to search and report on ALL video events, whether or not the actual video title was uploaded onto to the server.

DVDs are Self-Identifying
All identifying information is stored electronically on the bar coded DVD. Discs can be checked-in in batches by an evidence clerk. An officer simply hands off the DVDs for that day or week to the evidence clerk. There is no need to externally label the DVDs and no need to wait around during check-in. DVD drop off is the quickest method of getting video from the car to the server room.
Advanced Evidence Management
Powerful Searching and Reporting
Powerful and flexible search tools make it easy to locate important evidence whether it is stored on the server or only on the original DVD.
Review, Share, and Copy Video from the Server
The video events uploaded to the server can be viewed, shared, and copied onto playable DVDs. Competing server products must convert the file format to create a playable DVD which means the DVD copy is using non-original data. Since Critical Event Server stores the video files in the original DVD-Video file format, DVD copies made for court can be authenticated as original data.
Sophisticated Asset Tracking and Media Aging
Critical Event Server allows you to assign and track the location of your physical media. Use barcoded DVDs to simplify evidence “check-in” and “check-out”, and log distributed copies. Aged media reports help determine which stored DVD’s are due to be recycled.
Customized Hardware Solutions
WatchGuard offers both standard configurations and customized server solutions tailored to meet your agency’s unique needs and policies. From a single PC to a fully implemented RAID-5 server solution, our technical consultants will help guide you to the equipment that best fits your agency’s size and storage requirements. Call for further details.
Data Tracker
Data Tracker is a smaller version of WatchGuard’s Critical Event Server. This program retains all of the asset tracking features, metadata storage, advanced searching and reporting functionality, but it does not provide the ability to store, transfer or copy the DVD-Video files.
Laser Barcode Scanner
Simplify your evidence disc check-in and check-out procedures with our laser barcode scanner. This next-generation barcode scanner provides exceptional speed and precision and is designed to withstand constant, rigorous use in harsh environments.
WatchGuard DVD Evidence Cabinet
Our professional-grade storage solution makes it easy and simple to manage all of your evidence media. Constructed from heavy-gauge steel, the WatchGuard DVD Evidence Cabinet stores up to 4,800 DVDs, and features slotted drawer tray inserts that keep your media organized and in view.
